Silver Cartouche

Cartouche. What is a cartouche? Cartouche are very much like the Chinese chop (identifying trademark) except it is an oval shape containing a pharaoh's or a God's name in hieroglyphics.

At http://www.a1-nilepapyrus.biz are examples of cartouche in silver and 18K (75% pure) gold and all are meant to be personalized (containing names you specify).

The cartouche come in several different styles. Solid, open, with colored stone inlays, lettering in silver or in gold, a double side-by-side, double sided, extra wide, and round. On each you can specify one and in some cases two names to be spelled out in English, Arabic, or in Hieroglyphics. These cartouche are fashioned as necklace pendants to be worn on a chain.

Egyptian Glass Perfume Bottles

A1 exhibits 4 pages of bottles that are all made of the finest Pyrex glass using a high quality heat resistance glass and 12k gold to embellish the glasswork. The Egyptian Perfume Glass Bottles are Hand-made in Egypt by a Skilled Artisan. The shapes of these bottles are unique and exotic with a definite Egyptian 'flavor' that is difficult to describe with words, Click on the links to see what I mean.

Personalized and Miscellaneous Papyrus Paintings.

Today I want to write about these paintings.

First the personalized paintings. For one person there is provision for having a single name painted on the picture in a cartouche next to Isis. The name can be painted in hieroglyphics, Arabic, or English.

There are 2 double name paintings. The first is of the Key of Life or Ankh and the other is of King Tut and his wife. Again the names can be in combination of hieroglyphics, Arabic, or English.

The Miscellaneous page (http://www.a1-nile-papyrus.biz/Misc-Paintings.html) are of several different compositions. First is a painting depicting a Hierogylphic Transliteration table. With this one can translate elements of the English alphabet with their hieroglyphic equalivant.

Next is the painting of the Zodiac Signs in blue and Egyptian persons.

Next is the Bastet Cat. The cat (meeou-in hieroglyphics) was a pet, and has been associated with female fertility, warmth, love, dance and the moon. She is a protector of children and pregnant mothers, musicians. The temple of the Pyramid of Khafra at modern-day Giza next to the Sphinx had a "Portal of Bastet" as well as statues of Bastet in the company of the king of Egypt as a symbol for the goddess Bastet. The cat is sitting upright with typical stately perfection and is symbol and jewelry adorned.

Next is the Symbol of Life featuring the symbol for the god Khepri or the Scarab.

Next to that is the painting of is the Hall of judgment. This papyrus shows a judgment scene from the Book of the Dead. Anubis, God of the Dead with Thot, God of Time, are presiding over the weighing of the heart of the deceased, which is balanced against the feather, the symbol of Truth, of Maat-Goddess of existence.

Last on this page is a painting of three women, Egyptian Musicians. This Design is a part of a larger banquet scene found in the famous Tomb of Nakht at Thebes. It is a uniquely attractive and sophisticated variation on the familiar banquet scene, commonly found in the tombs of nobles, which shows the ancient Egyptian's love for music and entertainment.

Egyptian Gods I am going to discuss some of the Egyptian Papyrus Paintings of Egyptian Gods found at http://www.a1-nile-papyrus.biz/Egyptian-Gods.html .

First is the god Khepri represented by a winged scarab or dung beetle. The god Khepri, a sun god was associated with resurrection. The beetle became associated with the sun after the Egyptians watched them in nature. The beetle would roll a ball of dung (shaped like the sun) across the desert that carried its babies. This painting is not only of a scarab but also three separate Hieroglyphic signs that make up the name for a very famous King-Tutankhamun. The scarab is painted a beautiful blue with arching feathered wings of browns and blue and is holding a dung ball or Sun disk.

Next is the famous icon of Horus or Eye of Horus. Horus was one of five offspring of the original pair of Egyptian gods, Ra and Rhea. The brothers and sisters of Horus were Osiris, Set, Isis, and Nephthys. Osiris followed Ra as king of Egypt and married Isis, his sister. One brother, Set, killed Osiris, who became the ruler over the land of the dead. Isis, called upon her brother, Horus, to kill Set, which he managed after many battles. Eventually, Osiris was resurrected. The painting is very stylistic with Horus' eye bracketed by a bird figure (possibly another representation of Horus-Falcon headed) on the left and a cobra icon on the right.

There are paintings of Matt with Isis and Isis alone. The last painting I want to comment on is of Anubis the Dog. Dogs were in fact pets back then and had much the same loving relationship that people today do with their dogs. They loved them so much they even wanted to bring them with them in the afterlife and so they depicted them on their tomb walls. The jackal was chosen to represent Anubis. Anubis was the Lord of the West that was associated with embalming and mummification. The dog pictured comes from the tomb of Tutankhamun. The cartouche to the left spells out his prenomen (one of the Pharaohs names)-NebKhepurure. In the cartouche one can see the hieroglyph of the scarab. A very sleek and hansome dog is depicted atop a chest or coffin in an alert "on guard" posture.

Egyptian Royalty

Today I wanted to mention the Egyptian Papyrus Paintings of Egyptian Royalty found at www.a1-nile-papyrus.biz/Egyptian-Royalty.html. These fantastic papyrus paintings feature the powerful rulers of Egypt's distant past.

Foremost in most peoples' mind when they think of Egyptian royalty is the young pharaoh Tutankhamun better known as King Tut. Tut died at the tragically young age of 19. There are 2 paintings of Tut with his wife Ankhesena, and one of Tut with Horus an early God.

Then there is Akhenaton the pharaoh that introduced the concept of one god (Aton the sun) and 2 of his famous wife Neferiti.

The other Famous Egyptian that comes to mind is Cleopatra and there is a beautiful painting of her.

The Royalty collection rounds out with the Ramses II possibly the most accomplished and famous of all the ancient pharaohs who ruled for an amazing 67 years. We have Ramses aboard his war chariot (Ramses was an successful general) and Ramses fishing the Nile with what would be considered unsual today, with a bow and arrow.

I have had a long time interest in Egypt, its culture, and its history, especially of the mysterious pyramids and the treasures some of them contained. Why were they built? How were they built? To what purpose were they built? I have read many interesting theories on all those questions from large human efforts to possible alien involvement.

In any case, the products and culture of Egypt is fascinating and exotic.

I will be discussing Egyptian Papyrus Paintings of Royalty, Gods, and paintings you can personalize. For example there is a painting of King Tut and his wife that you can have your name painted in for one of the Tuts and your spouse's name for the other Tut. The quality, color and attention to detail remarkable and need to be seen in person to truly appreciate the high quality of the workmanship.
